we don`t want to win wimbledon, but we were interested in the evolution of a tennis player. this book is aimed mostly at parents, but it works for anyone who is interested. the style is chatty but very informative, and detailed without being stultifying. highlights for us included stories of the development of tennis giants.

This book gives you the ins and outs of becoming a world class tennis player. By examining the paths taken by many of the worlds greats it starts to become more and more clear what needs to be done if a champion is going to emerge. It is also a lot of fun to read the full tennis history, from the womb to Wimbledon champion so to speak, of all these different Wimbledon champions. A great read for anyone interested in tennis, and a necessity for any parents whos children are showing a strong interest in the game.
I was lucky enough to get the galley proofs to this book some months back. So nice to see it in print. Full of good information from an author who lives and breathes the game of tennis.
An absolute must for all tennis players especially the youngster who dreams of making it to the top of their game.
I have a vast library of tennis books and have to say this is in my opinion one of the best tennis books that I have ever read. I bought it because I was intrigued by the title and because my daughter actually really does want to win Wimbledon.

I would recommend this to players, coaches as well parents as it is informative on several different levels. It is an honest and accurate book that gets right to the point without any messing around.

Winning Wimbledon is a far harder achievement than most people think, the result of a lifetime of work and this book lets you appreciate exactly what is involved in a tennis player achieving their dream. Believe me, what is involved is frightening. I found a lot of the background information on the top players particularly interesting and the fact that many different routes were taken on journeys that essentially ended up in the same place, David Ferrer, I take my hat off to you. I look forward to Martins next book.
For me the best book about tennis next to Agassi's OPEN and Gilbert's WINNING UGLY! Very good book and fascinating informations about the top tennis players.
Being a coach I travelled to some of these academies myself i think this book is great for the way how facts and scenario are described.
It also gives you a realistic picture on how tough but possible is to win Wimbledon.
A very entertaining and extremely informative read. This gives you an inside look at the time and effort that is put in to becoming a world class tennis player. You also get a peek into how the top players grew up and how they began their journey. I recommend this book for any person interested in the game of tennis, weather it be to play or as an avid fan, such as myself.
One of, if not the best, tennis related book on the market. This book is not your usual technical instruction manual, which are available in their hundreds, but an original, clear and informative guideline for any child dreaming of becoming a Wimbledon Champion. A must read for any parent or coach.

I particularly enjoyed reading the biographies of current and past Wimbledon champions and the section detailing the progression of different tournament levels each player has to battle through before reaching the ATP/WTA main tour. The author does not hide the fact that most players will not make it onto the pro tour, but with a lot of hard work, self discipline, love of the game and some luck along the way, every child has an opportunity to realize their dream!
